These assessment samples show how I create meaningful tasks that measure comprehension, communication, and real language use.

Reading assessment

This reading assessment is designed for intermediate-high level students and focuses on the theme of adapting to life in a new country. The purpose of this test is to evaluate students’ ability to understand a level-appropriate text, identify main ideas and supporting details, and make inferences. Students also work with vocabulary in context and respond to both critical-thinking and personal-reflection questions.

The assessment includes a variety of task types to measure comprehension as well as students’ ability to connect the reading to their own experiences.

This writing assessment is designed for intermediate-level students and focuses on the topic of technology in daily life. The purpose of this task is to evaluate students’ ability to express an opinion, organize their ideas clearly, and support their arguments with reasons and examples. Students practice using academic language while connecting the topic to their own experiences, making the task both engaging and meaningful.

Speaking test

This speaking assessment is designed for intermediate-level students and focuses on the topic of food and culture. The purpose of this task is to evaluate students’ ability to communicate ideas clearly, organize their speech, and share personal experiences. Students practice using descriptive language and supporting details while speaking fluently and understandably. The task is both meaningful and engaging, allowing students to connect language with their own cultural background.

Speaking and writing LATs

In my Assessments course, three classmates and I wrote twelve speaking items and two writing items for the LATs at the English Language Center. These test items were used in assessments and then evaluated for validity and reliability. A copy of our technical evaluation report is linked below.
